CURRICULUM

In 2004 the Scottish Office published ‘A Curriculum for Excellence’. This sets out a new vision and context for Scottish Education, and aims to enable all learners to become ‘Confident Individuals’, ‘Successful Learners’, ‘Effective Contributors’ and ‘Responsible Citizens’.

The time given to each area of the curriculum should be flexible to take account of individual pupil needs and local circumstances, in accordance with recommendations in a ‘Curriculum for Excellence’ and Aberdeenshire’s Curriculum Guidelines. There is an emphasis on literacy, numeracy, PSE / health, creativity and enterprise and citizenship. Opportunities will be provided for development of thinking skills, formative assessment, problem solving and active learning. Children are given opportunities to explore in more depth areas of personal interest.
